چکیده

A Hindu male, aged 25, was given sulphathiazole for nasal sinusitus after a common cold; first dose (4 tablets) given at night. Late at night he woke up with itchiness of the scalp and in the morning he had puffiness and oedema of the face and scalp (giving a wrinkled baggy appearance to the face). It was soon relieved by an injection of adrenalin. No more of the sulpha-drug was taken.' A year later the same treatment was followed by the same result. No other drug was being administered on either of these occasions. He has not suffered from

Biochemical properties of staphylococci sensitive and resistant to sulphonamides.

Four staphylococcal substrains resistant to sulphonamides were developed from sensitive parent strains by subcultivation in increasing concentrations of sulphathiazole. As compared with the parent strains, the growth of the resistant strains was 20-200-fold less sensitive to sulphathiazole in a semi-defined medium based on acid hydrolyzed casein than were the parent strains. Inhibition of growt...

Evaluation of Treatment of Typhoid Fever

Many attempts have been made in the past to discover an ideal treatment for typhoid fever. The first promising attempt in this direction was made by McSweeney in 1946 who published reports of 5 cases of typhoid fever treated with large doses of penicillin and sulphathiazole (McSweeney, 1946). Earlier in the same year Bigger (1946) had observed that the growth of Salmonella typhi in cultures was...

Degradation of Oxytetracycline, Streptomycin, Sulphathiazole and Chloramphenicol Residues in Different Types of Honey.

Some of the most frequently used antibiotics in apiculture for the treatment of bacterial brood diseases are oxytetracycline, chloramphenicol, sulphathiazole and streptomycin. Therefore, the aim of this research is to determine the degradation kinetics of the residua these antibiotics leave behind in different types of honey stored in dark at 25 °C. The examined honey samples (N=74) originating...

Typhoid Fever in Children Treated with Penicillin and Sulphathiazole

more and better penicillin we should come to the stage of attacking it successfully. Bigger's (1946) researches showed that penicillin and sulphathiazole when used together exert a synergic action on Bad. typhosum. In consequence of this research McSweeney (1946) treated six cases of typhoid fever in adults with full doses of sulphathiazole and large doses of penicillin with apparently remarkab...
